Stoneybrook!

We went to Stoneybrook State Park today with Katie, aka TeTe, Grandma, and Bob-O. Stoneybrook is nice because you hike right next to the river. Harper was set to go in her little back pack carrier. She was more excited about all the dogs that were there rather than the nature.

She liked wearing TeTe's sunglasses. She's so glamorous.

We took a pit stop and let Harper play in the water. This picture was taken before I slipped and fell on my behiney. I had to hike the rest of the way with wet pants. Awesome.

Beautiful!

And just because... Harper thinks it's so much cooler to wear her sunglasses upsidedown. Get into it.

Let's go! Let's play! We can stay here all day!

Today we went to the Strong National Museum of Play with Cuddy and Grant Lynne. We bought a membership at the beginning of the summer and it was one of our best purchases yet. The place is amazing and it gives Harper the chance to run free and be wild. It's one of the few places where she can scream at the top of her lungs without getting the stink eye from strangers. My only complaint about the place is that it closes at 5 everyday except for Friday's (til 8).

Follow me! The fun is this way!

Slides are usually a hit... this one, not so much

"OMG Mommy, did you know the Berenstein Bears would be here!?"

And as usual, Harper's favorite was the dancing room where she busted a move for 10 minutes.
Photobucket

We finally had to take her out kicking and screaming because 1. the museum was about to close, and 2. she kept changing the song to the "Dance Mix" music whenever anyone else would change it to something else. She just had to be the DJ.

We had a great time!

Happy Birthday Oma!

Yesterday was Harper's Great Grandmother's birthday. We celebrated at Rob's parents house with some dancing, fun, and cake eating.

It's no secret that Harper's favorite thing to do is dance; well that and pick boogers, but dancing is much more appropriate for Grandma's house. So Harper had to start the festivities off with some dancing.

This is my new favorite picture. Harper and Rob were drawing together with chalk on the driveway. Seriously, could this be any sweeter!?

This picture pretty much captures Harper's personality.

Harper.

Harper is so many things wrapped up into her little 16 month old body. She's a wild child and a free spirit; she's everything we ever hoped for. I made this cool word cloud describing her here . Thanks to Cindy for this idea.

That kid is my kid.

We took Harper to a baseball game tonight. In theory, it sounds like it would be a great time. We got seats on the side, in the grass, so Harper could run around. However, the appeal of all the stairs, people, lights, and music got the best of Harper's independent curiousity and I spent most of my time chasing her around.

It came to my conclusion tonight that I have "that kid". You know, "that kid" that is fiercely independent and wild; "that kid" that runs away from their parents happily into a group of strangers; "that kid" that cannot be contained in any way; "that kid" that simply wants to be free to explore without the constraints of her meddling parents. I used to think that parents with "that kid" weren't doing thier job correctly, they weren't teaching their child how to be calm and have manners. But tonight I realized that "that kid" is my kid and as frustrating as it can be to never be able to sit down and relax, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love that my kid has an uninhibited curiousity for life, that she can't sit down because she's too excited about everything that is around her. I love that when my kid hears music she can't just sit; she has to get to get up and dance, and when she sees a flying bird, she has to get up and chase it - even if it is into a large group of people.

I love that my kid is that kid.

Field of dreams.

Look how tall the corn behind our house has gotten! I swear it was Harper's height just two weeks ago. She has a blast playing in and running through it.

I keep expecting the ghosts of baseball players to start walking out of it when I'm outside at night.

I heart the country.

There was a time when I couldn't imagine living anywhere else but in the city, or at least a 5 minute drive from one. When we moved to the country a few months ago I was apprehensive. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. We live just 5 short minutes from one of the coolest parks in upstate New York. Check out this view!

I love that we can just hop in the car and in no time we can see that. It's amazing.

We went for a hike tonight, and Harper LOVED it.

She loved it so much she got wild!

I love country living!

ready, set, paint!

We have a large wall in Harper's playroom that needs something on it, and who better to make it then Harper herself. She loves to paint, so we thought, what better way to make a painting then to make it BIG. I had started making a collage on this canvas years back and it had just been sitting in our garage waiting for some inspiration.

We started off by giving her tempra cakes, a brush and some water.
Photobucket

Standing on the canvas was a hit.
Photobucket

She really liked taking the brush from the tempras and putting it in the water to make different colors and then spreading it onto the canvas. This was nice because it made a lot of different values.
Photobucket

Photobucket

I put some regular tempra (primary colors) into these little squeeze bottles for her because she started getting tired of the brush. They were small so it was easy for her to squeeze the paint onto the canvas.
Photobucket

Photobucket

It's starting to come together!
Photobucket

Notice her face of concentration. Whenever she paints or draws she gets this concentrated face and it's hard to get her to crack a smile!
Photobucket

I love seeing her little hands in the paint!
Photobucket

Back to the brush

The concentration face again
Photobucket

And finally a smile!
Photobucket

When she was done she stood up, signed all done and just walked off to play under a tree. Here's the finished product. I can't wait to hang it up in the playroom. I love how most of her work is in the lower right hand corner and it's surprisingly balanced by her footprints walking off the top.

Cheese!

This is Rob's new favorite video of Harper. He cracks up everytime she says "cheese" because she makes the weirdest expression with her lips.

Learning new words

We got Harper these flash cards and she loves them. She's gotten so good at recognizing them. So far she knows cat, dog, ball, shoes, apple, fish, baby, and keys. We are attempting to indroduce a new card everyday. It's amazing how much her vocabulary has exploded these past few weeks! I'm so proud of my little girl!

Henry likes hugs too.

Harper's new favorite thing - trying to hug Henry our cat. Good thing he gets so drunk with love he doesn't mind!
